Recently, our team completed an extensive, top-to-bottom transformation of a stunning five-bedroom period home in Alloway. This wasn’t just a standard renovation; it was a complete back-to-brick refurbishment designed to strip away the years and rebuild a space perfectly tailored to our client’s lifestyle.
Stripping It Back to the Bones
To do justice to a period home of this scale, you have to start from a clean slate. We stripped the entire house back to its bare walls. This allowed us to modernize the home’s core infrastructure entirely. The property underwent a full rewire and a complete replumb, ensuring it operates with modern efficiency and safety.
Comfort was also top of mind. As part of the structural overhaul, we installed underfloor heating throughout the entire ground floor, bringing luxurious, consistent warmth to the home’s main living areas without compromising on floor space with traditional radiators.
Engineering Space: The Chimney Stack Removal
One of the most complex and rewarding features of this project was the removal of a massive central chimney stack. Spanning 16 stones, this structural feature took up an immense amount of valuable real estate across multiple levels.
By carefully removing the stack and re-engineering the structural support, we unlocked incredible potential across two floors:
- The Mid Floor: The newly cleared space allowed us to form a brand-new, beautifully proportioned bathroom.
- The Ground Floor: Removing the brickwork opened up the heart of the home, enabling us to create a seamless, light-filled open-plan kitchen and living area complete with bespoke cabinetry.
Luxury Living and Bespoke Entertaining
A home of this size demands exceptional amenities. We completely overhauled and redone all five bathrooms in the property, installing high-end fixtures and contemporary finishes to create private, spa-like sanctuaries for family and guests alike.
In addition to the living spaces, the client wanted a dedicated zone for entertaining. We formed a brand-new bar reception area featuring a fully bespoke bar. Designed from scratch to suit the client’s exact specifications, this space serves as the ultimate focal point for hosting gatherings.
